A major review looked at many studies about new medicines for fatty liver disease. The goal was to see which drugs best help heal the liver without making it worse. Scientists examined how well different types of medicine helped reduce scarring inside the liver.

SGLT2 inhibitors came out on top for helping the liver scar tissue go away. These medicines also worked very well at completely clearing the fatty liver condition. Other new drugs like FGF21 analogs also showed strong results for healing the liver.

Safety was an important part of this review. The SGLT2 inhibitors seemed to have the best balance between helping the liver and avoiding bad side effects. However, more large studies are needed to fully prove these findings before doctors can recommend them widely.

This research suggests that taking a pill might be a good option for some patients. But doctors must wait for bigger studies to confirm these results before changing how they treat patients with this serious liver condition.

What this means for you:
SGLT2 inhibitors showed the best results for healing liver scarring in this review, but bigger studies are needed first.
