Scientists looked at twenty-four different studies using animals to test Salvia miltiorrhiza for bone health. They found that bones treated with this plant material had much higher mineral density compared to untreated bones. This means the bones were denser and likely stronger.
The tests also showed that the structure inside the bones got better. Bones that break easily often have weak internal structures, but these treatments helped fix that. Additionally, the bones could handle more physical stress without breaking.
Other signs of healthy bones also improved. The body made more new bone building material and less bone breaking material. However, these results came from animals, so we do not know if the same thing happens in people yet.
Experts warn that animal bodies work differently than human bodies. Drugs act differently in animals than they do in people. Therefore, these good results in animals do not guarantee the same results for humans. More research is needed before doctors can recommend this for people with weak bones.
