Losing muscle is a common worry for older adults. It makes daily tasks harder and increases the risk of falling. A new analysis looked at how different foods and supplements might help. The team examined data from 3,063 elderly patients who had sarcopenia, which is the medical term for age-related muscle loss. They tested anti-inflammatory diets and various supplements to see what worked best. The results showed clear winners for different measures of health. For example, whey protein was the most effective way to improve handgrip strength. This is a simple measure of how strong your hands are. Vitamin D helped the most with walking speed. Another specific compound called epicatechin helped build muscle mass. The five times sit-to-stand test also showed improvement when people took combined supplements. This test measures how quickly someone can stand up and sit down five times. It is a key sign of overall physical function. The study suggests that personalized nutrition plans are needed. Each person has different needs, so one size does not fit all. The researchers recommend developing strategies that target the specific needs of patients with sarcopenia.
