Surgery is a powerful tool, but infections can turn a routine procedure into a nightmare. A new analysis looked at how cefotiam, a specific antibiotic, helps prevent these problems in adults having clean operations. The study combined data from 3,497 patients to get a clear picture of what works best.

The results were clear. Patients who received cefotiam before surgery had a significant drop in infection rates compared to those who got no antibiotic protection. This specific drug reduced the risk of infection by more than half. It performed just as well as other standard beta-lactam antibiotics, which are the usual go-to choices for these procedures.

Safety was another major concern for doctors and patients alike. The analysis showed no significant difference in side effects between the group taking cefotiam and the others. Serious problems or reasons to stop the drug early were not reported. This suggests cefotiam is a safe and effective option for preventing infections when you need a reliable alternative.

What this means for you:
Cefotiam significantly reduces infection risk in clean surgeries without increasing side effects.
