A new study suggests that teaching forgiveness may help caregivers of people at the end of life. Researchers randomly assigned 56 caregivers to either a forgiveness psychoeducation program or no intervention. The program focused on helping caregivers work through feelings of resentment and anger. After one and three months, those who received the training reported significantly lower death anxiety and caregiving burden compared to the control group. The results were statistically significant, meaning they were unlikely to be due to chance. However, this was a small study with only 28 people in each group, and the effect size was not reported. No information was given about side effects or how well the training was tolerated. The findings suggest that forgiveness-based support may be a helpful addition to caregiver resources, but more research is needed to confirm these results and understand who benefits most.
