Researchers conducted a randomized, controlled, double-blind trial to compare a specific infant formula with conventional formula and exclusive breastfeeding. The study included 62 infants in the Concept group, 64 in the Control group, and 123 in the exclusive breastfeeding reference group. Participants were followed for up to 24 months. The main goal was to see how these feeding methods affected body composition from six to 12 months of age.

The study found no differences in fat mass index between the two formula groups. Both formula groups had higher visceral fat and higher fat-free mass compared to the breastfeeding group. They also had lower fat mass percentage and length compared to breastfeeding up to six months. The Concept formula was well-tolerated with safety similar to the control formula.

The authors note that more research is required to investigate potential long-term effects. This trial provides early data on how specific formula ingredients relate to body composition in infancy, but it does not yet explain long-term health outcomes.
