Many people feel nervous asking pharmacists questions. They worry about being judged or not understanding the answer. A new pilot study looked at whether a simple AI chatbot could change that feeling. It might help patients feel safer talking to their medicine experts.

Researchers gave 280 participants a choice. Some watched an educational video. Others used an AI chatbot programmed with the same information. The chatbot was designed to encourage active participation. Participants who used the chatbot showed better perceptions of pharmacist roles. They reported higher trust and comfort. They also felt more willing to seek information.

The chatbot interactions were mostly neutral or positive. People asked detailed questions instead of simple yes or no questions. Deeper interaction led to better understanding. However, this was a small pilot study. It used a crowdsourcing platform. These factors limit how much we can say about real-world use right now. The study did not report safety issues or serious side effects.

This pilot suggests AI tools can supplement traditional patient education. They should focus on interfaces that encourage active participation. Remember that these chatbots complement rather than replace human pharmacist interactions. More research is needed to confirm these findings in larger groups.

What this means for you:
