Death education programs boost nurse confidence in end-of-life care skills

Nurses often face difficult conversations about death without enough training. A new analysis looked at death education programs designed to help nursing students and nurses feel more ready for these moments. The research combined data from 1,142 people across 13 different studies to see if these programs made a difference.

The results showed a clear improvement in end-of-life care competence. Participants felt significantly more skilled after taking part in these programs. This means nurses reported feeling better prepared to handle the complex needs of patients nearing the end of their lives.

However, the study did not find a significant change in attitudes toward death. The data was also mixed regarding the quality of the studies and lacked long-term follow-up. Because of these gaps, experts say these findings should be seen as a starting point for further research rather than a final answer.
