Sarcopenia is the loss of muscle mass and strength that often occurs as people age. This review looked at how different types of exercise affect the body's inflammatory response in older adults with this condition. Because the evidence comes from a narrative review, the findings are not yet enough to change standard medical practices.
Researchers found that aerobic exercise primarily helps by lowering markers of inflammation throughout the entire body and improving metabolism. In contrast, resistance training was linked to reducing inflammation signals specifically within the muscle tissue while promoting growth. High-intensity interval training and combined programs may offer benefits from both types of movement.
While these findings suggest that tailored exercise plans could help manage sarcopenia, many underlying mechanisms are still not fully understood. Because this is a review of existing literature rather than a new clinical trial, the results show links rather than direct proof. People should consult with healthcare providers to determine which specific exercises are safest and most effective for their individual needs.
