This study focused on comparing two different versions of this gene to see if they changed the amount of serotonin transporters or receptors available in various parts of the brain.
The analysis included data from many studies involving healthy individuals. The results showed no significant differences between the two genetic groups regarding serotonin transporter availability in areas like the striatum, frontal lobe, and brainstem. Additionally, there was no significant difference found for serotonin 1A receptor availability in the raphe nuclei.
Because these findings show little to no difference between the gene types, it suggests that this specific genetic marker may not be a primary factor in how the brain processes serotonin. While genetics play a complex role in mental health, this specific variation alone might not explain why some people are more prone to certain conditions.
