Researchers analyzed data from 883 patients with type 2 diabetes to see if a traditional herbal formula, known as Chaihu Guizhi Ganjiang Tang (CHGZGJT), could improve health outcomes when added to standard treatments. The study looked at several markers of blood sugar control and heart health.
The results showed that patients who took the herbal mixture saw a decrease in HbA1c levels, fasting plasma glucose, and 2-hour postprandial glucose. The formula also appeared to improve insulin resistance and beta-cell function while lowering total cholesterol, triglycerides, and LDL cholesterol. These findings suggest the herb may offer additional benefits for managing diabetes symptoms.
However, it is important to note that the quality of the evidence from these studies was only low to moderate. Because the data comes from a meta-analysis of existing trials rather than one large new study, more high-quality clinical trials are needed to confirm how well this works over a long period. You should talk with your doctor before adding any new supplements or herbal treatments to your current medical plan.
