Living with uremia while undergoing regular hemodialysis can take a heavy toll on the body, often leading to poor nutritional health. New data suggests that adding traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) to standard care might help patients manage these challenges more effectively.
Researchers looked at data from 2,263 patients to see how TCM performed alongside dialysis. They found that patients who received both treatments showed a significant improvement in their overall response rates compared to those receiving only standard care and dialysis. The study also noted improvements across several different nutritional indicators for these patients.
While the results are promising, it is important to note that the studies analyzed had some differences in how they were conducted. Because of this variety, more high-quality research is needed to confirm exactly how much of an impact TCM has. However, the data showed no increase in the risk of adverse events for those who used the treatment.
