Many people with overweight or obesity struggle to find safe ways to manage their weight. A new analysis looked at white kidney bean extract, a common supplement, to see if it helps. Researchers combined data from multiple studies involving 543 adults. They wanted to know if this extract could help reduce weight and improve health markers. The results were clear. Adults taking the extract lost an average of 1.62 kilograms more than those taking a placebo. They also saw reductions in body mass index, fat mass, and waist size. Hip circumference decreased slightly as well. The extract was generally well-tolerated, with no serious safety issues reported or discontinuations noted. Some health markers like fasting blood glucose and triglycerides did not change significantly. This suggests the extract targets fat storage rather than blood sugar directly. However, the researchers note that further large-scale, high-quality, and long-term trials are warranted to confirm its efficacy and clarify its potential role in metabolic health. Until then, this supplement may serve as a generally well-tolerated, nonpharmacological adjunct for weight management.
