Imagine waking up every day worrying about losing a foot. That is the heavy daily fear for adults with diabetic foot. A recent study asked if a specific risk tool could help doctors manage this better.

Researchers followed 42 patients in a vascular surgery clinic for up to 18 months. They used the Tardivo Algorithm to check risk levels and track healing over time. Most patients, 94.3%, kept their limbs. About 57% saw their wounds heal completely. Patients healed in just over five months on average.

The data showed links between the risk scores and peripheral arterial disease (a blood vessel condition). Patients with higher scores faced longer healing times. The study did not report safety issues, so we do not know the full picture regarding side effects or tolerability.

Here is the catch. The study lacked a control group. We cannot say the tool caused the good results. It only shows a connection in real-world care. We need stricter studies to prove the impact before changing how everyone gets treated. The findings reflect associations observed in a structured outpatient care model. Doctors must interpret these results carefully as links we saw rather than proof the tool works.

What this means for you:
Most patients kept their limbs, but we need more proof to know if the tool truly helps.
