A systematic review examined flavonoid compounds from traditional Chinese medicine for treating non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and related conditions. The analysis included data from both human and veterinary medicine involving companion animals and livestock. The review looked at how these compounds affect the liver and overall health.

The study found that these flavonoids reversed disorders in liver fat metabolism. They inhibited the creation of new fat, sped up the breakdown of existing fat, and reduced oxidative stress in the liver. Additionally, the compounds helped slow down liver fibrosis and suppressed inflammatory responses.

Safety data indicated low toxicity with no reported serious adverse events or discontinuations. However, the review noted limitations regarding the low bioavailability of these flavonoids and unclear synergistic effects among different components. This systematic review identifies these compounds as potential candidate natural drugs for intervention in both human and veterinary medicine.
