Living with a breast cancer diagnosis brings heavy emotional weight. Patients often struggle not just with physical symptoms, but with feelings of anxiety and depression. New research looked at how mind body exercises like Yoga, Tai Chi, Qigong, Pilates, and Dance can help manage these challenges.
The study looked at 3,770 people across many different trials. The results showed that Qigong, dance, and yoga all significantly improved quality of life compared to standard care. Specifically, dance showed the strongest results for reducing anxiety, while yoga and Tai Chi were most effective at lowering feelings of depression.
While these findings are encouraging, it is important to note that the evidence is currently not very strong. Many of the original studies had a high risk of bias, meaning the data could be less certain. However, the results suggest that moving your body in these intentional ways can be a helpful tool for emotional well-being.
