Researchers are looking at a tool called dynamic gratings—moving patterns that change in ways like shifting position or appearing and disappearing—to help see what is happening in the eyes.
These moving patterns do more than just test vision. They help doctors understand how diseases affect the brain and eye. They can also be used to help diagnose problems or check if a treatment is actually working for patients with conditions like strabismus or multiple sclerosis.
While this tool shows great promise for clinical use, it is not yet common in everyday doctor visits. Because there are no standard rules for how to use them and no set database of results, more research is needed to create specific plans for different diseases.
