Stenosis: what the trials found

For patients undergoing posterolateral fusion, clinical outcomes demonstrate significant improvements in functional status and disability scores over a 24-month period. Specifically, the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) improved from 50.0 to 33.7 during this timeframe 6. Patient-reported quality of life, as measured by the EQ-5D Health State Visual Analog Scale (VAS), showed an increase from 58.8 at baseline to 79.2 within 6 months, remaining stable through 24 months 6.

Radiographic evidence confirms successful fusion in posterolateral fusion procedures; CT scans demonstrated a 26% fusion rate across spinal levels 4. Additionally, X-ray assessments of posterolateral gutters showed consistent evidence of arthrodesis at 3, 6, 12, and 24 months post-procedure 6.

Clopidogrel was evaluated in a large-scale Phase 4 study involving 5,276 participants 1.

Recent results — preliminary, needs further review

  • Transforaminal lumbar interbody arthrodesis (n=69) 2
  • BioNIR Ridaforolimus Eluting Coronary Stent System (n=58) 3
  • Saphenous vein graft (SVG) stenting showed 5 participants with adverse events within 30 days (n=12) 5
  • Covera Vascular Covered Stent following PTA demonstrated high target lesion primary patency (TLPP) and freedom from serious adverse events in two separate trials [7, 8]
  • Demineralized Bone Matrix showed radiographic fusion at 12 months post-surgery (n=43) 9

For the clinician treating this condition

  • Posterolateral fusion is associated with measurable improvements in patient disability scores (ODI) and quality of life (EQ-5D VAS) over a 24-month period 6.
  • Radiographic evidence supports the efficacy of posterolateral fusion for achieving arthrodesis at multiple follow-up intervals [4, 6].
