Angioedema: what the trials found

Lanadelumab has been evaluated for its impact on quality of life and attack frequency in patients with angioedema. Results showed a reduction in the Total Angioedema Quality of Life (AE-QoL) score by 12.73 points at the end of the treatment period 3. Additionally, there was no statistically significant difference between groups regarding the number of investigator-confirmed angioedema attacks, attack-free status, or moderate to severe angioedema attacks over a 182-day period 4.

Omalizumab demonstrated improvements in quality of life and reduction in angioedema activity scores. Patients treated with Omalizumab showed mean changes in the Chronic Urticaria Quality of Life (CU-Q2oL) total scores ranging from -6.4 to -32.1, alongside a decrease in Angioedema Activity Score (AAS) total week sum scores 2.

Icatibant was evaluated for its speed of action in treating symptoms. While the time to onset of symptom relief did not show a statistically significant difference between groups (p=0.142), there was a highly significant difference in the time to regression (start of improvement) as reported by patients (p<0.001) 5.
