Candidemia: what the trials found

Clinical management of candidemia includes several established antifungal agents including anidulafungin, micafungin, and isavuconazole. Anidulafungin has been evaluated in multiple studies showing high rates of clinical and microbiological success at various endpoints [3, 6, 9]. In one study, anidulafungin demonstrated a low incidence of relapsed response or new infections among participants 6.

Isavuconazole was evaluated in a large trial where the percentage of participants with overall response of success varied between 43.2% and 72.1% across different follow-up intervals 5. Other agents such as rezafungin for injection 7 and SCY-078 [8, 10] have been studied in clinical settings.

The agent APX001 demonstrated high treatment success rates at the end of study treatment (88.9%) in a small cohort, with consistent mycological outcomes observed through 4 weeks post-treatment 11. In a separate trial of APX001, treatment success was reported at 55% to 60% at various follow-up points, though mycological success rates were lower and decreased over time 12.
