Heart Failure with Reduced Ejection Fraction: what the trials found

SGLT2 inhibitors were evaluated for their impact on cardiac dimensions, specifically showing no significant change in Left Ventricular End-diastolic Dimension (LVEDD) 1. In a separate study of dapagliflozin, patients showed a statistically significant improvement in the Kansas-City Cardiomyopathy Questionnaire-Total Symptom Score (KCCQ-TSS) at 16 weeks, though no significant changes were observed in physical limitation scores or 6-minute walk distance 7.

Regarding LCZ696, trials demonstrated that a significantly higher percentage of patients achieved and maintained either a 100 mg or 200 mg dose compared to the control group 3. Additionally, high numbers of participants successfully tolerated LCZ696 for at least two weeks across different RAAS strata 11.

Sodium zirconium cyclosilicate was shown to significantly increase the proportion of patients achieving a response defined by serum potassium levels between 3.5 and 5.0 mEq/L while on spironolactone (≥25 mg daily) compared to standard care 4. Omecamtiv Mecarbil resulted in a statistically significant decrease in total workload during cardiopulmonary exercise testing at week 20, though changes in peak oxygen uptake and ventilatory efficiency were not significant 6.
