Androgenetic alopecia: what the trials found

Several interventions have demonstrated statistically significant improvements in hair growth metrics for androgenetic alopecia. P-3074 showed a significant increase in the adjusted mean change from baseline in hair growth as assessed by Target Area Hair Count (TAHC) at both 12 weeks and 24 weeks (p < 0.001) 2. However, changes in Target Area Hair Width (TAHW) for this intervention did not reach statistical significance (p = 0.322) 2.

Minoxidil 5% topical foam demonstrated significant improvements in both Target Area Hair Count and Subject Assessment of Scalp Coverage (p < 0.0001) 3. Finasteride 1mg also showed statistically significant increases in Target Area Hair Count at the vertex at week 24 (p = 0.046) 4, with notable improvements observed at the 12-week mark as well.

Bimatoprost Formulation A was evaluated for safety and tolerability; trials indicated no clinically significant ECG findings and a low incidence of increased local scalp tolerability issues 10. While clinical outcome scores (SSA, IGA, GPR) were recorded for this formulation, they did not reach statistical significance in the primary reported data 9.
