Brain Cancer: what the trials found

Elucirem is a newly established intervention in the treatment of brain cancer 1. Other established interventions include temozolomide [7, 8], concurrent temozolomide 15, bevacizumab 13, and carboplatin 14.

Nivolumab has been evaluated across multiple trials. One study showed no significant difference in overall survival (OS) between groups (p=0.3402), while another trial demonstrated a statistically significant difference in OS (p=0.0037) with 21.2% of patients reaching the 24-month OS mark [9, 10].

Other established interventions include stereotactic body radiotherapy 4, perampanel, which showed zero instances of adverse events attributable to treatment in a small cohort 5, and filgrastim, where progression-free survival (PFS) varied significantly by risk group but not by ERBB2 status 16.

Supportive or adjunctive measures include injection tramadol 3, levetiracetam (which showed no significant change in neurotoxicity scores, p=0.7824) 2, cholecalciferol (no significant difference in hospital stay duration) 12, and a GTC frame 17. Dotarem® demonstrated high rates of good or excellent lesion visualization across multiple cohorts 6.

For the clinician treating this condition

  • Nivolumab shows inconsistent results across trials; while one study showed no significant difference in OS, another demonstrated a statistically significant improvement in 24-month survival rates.
  • Concurrent temozolomide was evaluated for median overall survival and progression-free survival, but did not show statistically significant differences between groups 15.
  • Perampanel was associated with zero reported adverse events in a small study cohort 5.
