Eosinophilic Esophagitis: what the trials found

New evidence indicates that CC-93538 is associated with a significant reduction in mean Dysphagia Days at week 24 9 and a significantly higher percentage of patients achieving peak esophageal eosinophil counts of 6/Hpf compared to placebo at both week 24 and week 48 9. Additionally, CC-93538 is associated with new clinical data in Phase 3 trials 1.

Dupilumab has demonstrated significant efficacy in reducing peak esophageal intraepithelial eosinophil counts (p < 0.0001) and improving Dysphagia Symptom Questionnaire (DSQ) scores (p = 0.0004) 8. In a separate study, Dupilumab was associated with a statistically significant reduction in Straumann Dysphagia Instrument (SDI) scores at week 10 20.

Reslizumab is associated with significant reductions in peak esophageal eosinophil levels (p < 0.0001), physician global assessments of eosinophils (p = 0.0313), and predominant symptom assessments (p = 0.0062) 7. It also showed improvements in Child Health Questionnaire scores 12.

Lirentelimab (AK002) demonstrated a significant reduction in peak esophageal intraepithelial eosinophil counts at week 24 (p < 0.0001) 10. Fluticasone Propionate was associated with a significant reduction in pediatric symptom scores over 12 weeks (p = 0.04) 11, though it did not show a statistically significant difference in histologic remission rates compared to other groups 11. Losartan Potassium showed evidence of histologic remission and reduced peak eosinophil counts in small cohorts [18, 19].
