Skin melanoma: what the trials found

New evidence includes the implementation of AI-based Computer-Aided Diagnosis (CAD) Software for skin lesion analysis 1.

Treatment with bevacizumab has been evaluated in multiple studies, including a trial reporting a tumor response rate of 23.8% to 33.3% and progression-free survival at 6 months ranging from 32.8% to 56.1% [14, 16].

Aldesleukin was evaluated in several trials; one study showed a significant increase in tumor-antigen-specific immunity in sentinel immunized nodes (SIN) by Elispot assay (p=0.004), while no significant difference was found in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) [18, 21, 22].

Interleukin-2 treatment demonstrated a statistically significant improvement in 5-year relapse-free survival (47% vs 38%, p=0.02), though no significant difference was found in 5-year overall survival (56% vs 56%, p=0.49) 3.
