Aortic Valve Stenosis: what the trials found

Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) is associated with a 3% all-cause mortality rate and a 2% cardiovascular mortality rate at 30 days post-procedure, with no reported instances of stroke during this period 1. This procedure is established as a clinical intervention for the condition [1, 7].

Pharmacological management with Acetylsalicylic acid demonstrated significant results in improving aortic valve hemodynamics; specifically, it was associated with a reduction in leaflet motion and an improvement in the transvalvular mean pressure gradient (p=0.01) 2.

Recent results — preliminary, needs further review

  • Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) is currently being evaluated in larger cohorts 5.

For the clinician treating this condition

  • TAVR shows favorable early outcomes with low mortality and zero stroke rates at 30 days post-procedure.
  • Acetylsalicylic acid significantly improves transvalvular mean pressure gradients and reduces leaflet motion.
