Multidrug-Resistant Tuberculosis: what the trials found

Pretomanid has demonstrated significant efficacy in achieving culture-negative status by 8 weeks (p<0.001) 5. Clinical outcomes for Pretomanid also showed low rates of bacteriologic failure, relapse, or clinical failure at both 26 weeks and 78 weeks post-treatment across various study arms 3. Additionally, a trial evaluating Pretomanid reported positive changes in total sperm count from baseline at 12 and 44 weeks 7.

Delamanid showed significant results in sputum culture conversion (SCC) rates using both MGIT systems and solid culture media compared to other regimens (p=0.0083; p=0.0021) 9. In a large-scale trial, the addition of Delamanid to OBR did not show a statistically significant difference in time to SCC or proportions of patients achieving SCC at 2, 6, 18, 24, or 30 months (p=0.0562; p=0.3818; p=0.5945) 4. Delamanid was associated with high rates of treatment responders using both MGIT and solid culture media (approximately 75-82%) 10.
