Bronchiolitis: what the trials found

Helium-oxygen mixture (heliox) has been shown to significantly improve clinical scores in patients with bronchiolitis. Specifically, heliox resulted in significant improvements in Modified Wood's Clinical Asthma Score (M-WCAS) from baseline at 240 minutes 3, and demonstrated statistically significant improvements across multiple time points in both the Modified Wood's Clinical Bronchiolitis Score (MWCBS) and Respiratory Distress Assessment Instrument (RDAI) scores compared to oxygen alone 3.

Pharmacological interventions including L-Epinephrine combined with Normal Saline (0.9%) resulted in a statistically significant reduction in clinical severity scores 2. Additionally, the use of 0.9% Sodium Chloride was evaluated in relation to respiratory distress and hospital stay duration 1, while nebulized 3% saline was studied regarding RDAI scores and oxygen usage hours 4.
